Area Parks to Visit

If your not originally from Sarasota/Manatee Counties you wouldnt realize the abundance of parks and wildlife that surround our beautiful cities. Here is a short list of some the parks to explore that are nearby to Sarasota/Lakewood Ranch.

Myakka River State Park

Located right outside of Sarasota/Lakewood Ranch on State Road 72 the Myakka River State Park is one of the largest state parks in Florida. Open to the public in 1941 the park has something for everyone. Miles of Hiking/Biking paths wind through the wilderness of the state park. A must see while your there is the outdoor treetop lab and observation area, from here you can overlook the entire park! There is a small concession stand/picnic area in the park if you find yourself hungry or thirsty. Bird watching, canoeing, kayaking and camping are also available here.

South Lido Beach Park

One of the first things I did when I moved to Sarasota. An excellent park to relax or play! Rent a kayak and take a tour through the mangroves for some sites and sounds you will never forget. Park your kayak on tiny strip of Lido Beach that sticks out and watch the Manatees and Dolphins pass by. This park will be less crowded in season than nearby Siesta Key beach.
