Home Renovations For The Summer!
Nothing is better than a hot summer day, playing in the pool, eating s'mores by the campfire.
If you are like me, while you are enjoying the crisp cool water, you somehow can't stop pondering what else can I do to make my home even better?
Here are a few simple home renovations to enhance your home.
1. Spruce Up The Exterior
Before beginning your painting project, clean the surface of your home. You want to make sure all dirt and mildew has been washed away. After the outside of the home is clean, next you want to scrape off any peeling or cracked paint. Then it is time to sand and prime the home. Also, make sure to protect your landscape by covering them with plastic.
2.Enhance The Landscaping
There are so many easy ways to improve your landscaping. Start by sprucing up any outdoor planting containers, plant a few plants that will add a pop of color and touch up the mulch. Nothing spices up a place like fresh mulch! Apply a fresh layer in all your garden beds. The color will enhance the contrast of surrounding plants. Another great improvement is to shape up any unsightly or overgrown trees and shrubs.
3.Upgrade Windows
Consider replacing multiple windows at once. Not only will this improve the aesthetics of your home but it will also increase the energy efficiency in the long run. Each window should take about 30 minutes to install, depending on size. However it can take up to 2 days depending on several factors. After installing your new windows, the professional will install exterior trim to finish the job.
4.Build A Fire Pit
Like any project, you want to start at the bottom and level up. You can start with a layer of sand, some like to use fire-rated brick, lava glass or poured concrete. Check your local ordinances, when deciding on the location for your new fire pit. Consider it's proximity to neighbors, overhanging trees and structures.
5.Upgrade The Front Door
There are a ton of little things you can do to make your front deal more appealing. A simple way would be to apply a fresh coat of paint. You can also consider adding external lighting, updating the finishing, or adding new trim. If that doesn’t seem to float your boat, you can always opt for a brand new door. There are several doors that are used for the exterior. These include: wood doors, metal doors and fiberglass doors. The fiberglass door has been a popular choice, considering it has little expansion or contraction with weather changes which ensures long-term and easy operation of the door. Plus fiberglass doors come in many styles and can be painted or stained.
6.Replace Fences and Gates
A fence can look good as new with a new stain. Over time, dirt, mold, and grease can stick to the fence. First start with a good pressure washer. Make sure to put it on a lower setting so you don’t damage the wood. Stain has a tendency to win over paint when it comes to fences because it requires less maintenance. I’m sure your neighbors wouldn’t be disappointed.
7.Installing Ceiling Fan
Install a ceiling it in a room that already has a ceiling outlet, wiring a ceiling fan is the same as wiring any ceiling fixture. If the room doesn't have an overhead box, hire an electrician to install the box and fish the wires through the walls and across the ceiling.
